Got a couple new batteries for my old camera. I haven’t been able to decide on a new model, so I’m back to using my now-restored Canon S230. I found this picture on the memory card, I think he’s looking for the prize.

Right after I got over my last bug, I managed to get Kirsten’s cold and went back to being miserable. I tried to do all the normal sick-day stuff, but really couldn’t concentrate on anything and mostly wound up bored. The tragedy was that I couldn’t visit my friend at the hospital when they were having a baby. Now they’re on the way home for their several weeks of sleepless hell, and I missed the happy part. Oh well, maybe we can see them in a month or something.
I got suck in GTA IV, probably about half-way through the game. It’s because I got no skillz, but I’ve come to terms with that. I also haven’t gotten around to playing any online, as I don’t know anyone who has had time to play. Oh, except Todd, but he has a PS3 :(

Kirsten came down with some kind of sick earlier this week, and just today was able to get back to work. I’m not sure how she’s coping today, but I know I’m barely surviving. I assumed she probably had what I’d got several weeks ago, but with how I feel today, I think I might have picked up something AGAIN… either that or this is some epic allergies. Allergies usually don’t make you think you’re going to fall asleep on your keyboard though.

We finally replaced our old, nasty couch with something more comfortable and less cat-barfed-on. We kind of pre-spent our tax-check on it, but I don’t think either of us could handle that gross pile of fabric and wood any longer. It was completely worn out. Anyone who sat on it just slid toward the middle, as the springs were completely shot too. Now we have a brand-new microfiber couch with dual recliners! Yay for falling asleep watching Conan!
The internet is pretty cool and all, just wish it would stop doing stuff for a few weeks so I can finish GTA IV and get my hunter to level 70.

The rest of the valley had some nice weather last weekend, but the coast was really the place to be. It was amazingly warm and calm, and not even as crowded as I would have expected. Kirsten was taking some students on a field trip to Haystack Rock to look at sea critters, so I tagged along. FYI, barnacles make a really gross ticking sound if you listen carefully.
Sunday I got a virus, so I stayed in and slept. Monday was more of the same, as I didn’t feel like sharing with everyone at work. Last night was Stef’s last dinner here before she leaves for Europe. I wish her the best, but I know she’ll have a fantastic time. It was nice to see some of the other people who dropped in too, as she hasn’t had any big parties for awhile. Oh well, maybe this summer.
Oh, and I ordered some new headphones from Amazon via their beta version of their iPhone pages while I was at the beach on Friday. The headphones arrived Monday, which was amazing since I used the cheapest-possible free-shipping.

I spent my spring break mostly at home, and it’s surprising how busy you feel when you have nothing planned. I always follow a similar pattern when I have some free time: First, I just rest until I’m bored. That usually means reading, playing games, or just napping until I start getting restless. Second, I start cleaning and organizing. I always feel like I think better when my environment is less cluttered. Eventually I just start working on projects of increasing ambition, but I’ve been doing better suppressing that tendency lately. Projects usually cost money, and there’s something to be said for getting ahead by doing nothing. At least, that’s what I’ve been telling myself.
Anyway, I think I finally unpacked the last box from our move nearly a year ago. I also finally tamed the floor of the “extra room” and put everything back into some kind of box on a shelf.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, I spent Friday getting a molar ground down for a crown. Someone please remind me to never eat again.

Strider has a new fort

It’s very big.
Man, vacations are nice but they keep you busy doing other stuff you normally wouldn’t. Also, I got one of my teeth ground up for a crown yesterday. I am the king of bummer.

I finally got around to getting my hair clipped down properly again last night. It’s interesting how depending on how much I put that off, can be a measure of how busy my mind is. The last month or so seems like it’s been so crazy… and it’s not like I don’t want to go, as my hair gets wavy and unmanageable and the salon by our house is really friendly and cool. In fact, they shared their left-over Guinness from St. Patrick’s Day while we waited.
I moved my dental ‘procedure’ over to next Monday night, because it conflicted with Kirsten’s night-out with the other staff at work. I often come along, as they’re fun folks and I probably deserve some relaxing too. They don’t even have school on Friday, so I think she’s going to be celebrating her first day of break while I’m trying to finalize that awful report. I can handle that, so long as she doesn’t taunt me over IM all day about it.

This series of reports at work is dominating my days lately. I gotta finish the first one by Friday (since that’s when it’s due anyway), but I wanted to get more of them done to avoid worrying over spring break.
We celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday on Saturday at a nice little restaurant in Salem called Wild Pear. They do some great food, and the chocolate torte was amazing.
That night we went over to visit my sister at the big house she’s sitting for. Six of us played that ‘Apples To Apples’ game for like, five hours or something. It was great fun, but I’m concerned we might have burnt ourselves out on it. Several people had nearly collapsed by the time we ran out of cards to play.
Sunday we went to Scot & Marianna’s baby shower. Marianna’s family loves getting together, so we didn’t really do much of the normal shower activities, but instead spent most of the time socializing and grazing on the fantastic foods and drinking wine. I think we should have skipped the wine though, since we went home and napped when we were supposed to be cleaning up. Oh well!

I feel like I finally got some rest last night for the first time in weeks. I also managed to conquer my fear of the dentist yesterday by getting a filling for the first time in years. I believe I’ve conquered it anyway. I guess we’ll see when I go back again next week for a crown. Still, I’m not sure it’s a coincidence.
I bought a bunch of lightly used gaming-pc parts off of Scot awhile back, and used them to rebuild Kirsten’s computer recently. She wanted a new case anyway, and I had already bought a whole new Dell 720, so we assembled a vast pile of goodies for a rebuild. The result is really slick, and looks way better inside than the original machine(s) did.

Grumble grumble… putting together some stats for a report I wasn’t expecting… making me grumpy because I’m already behind on stuff. Oh well.
I bought the new Nine Inch Nails release, Ghosts, as I was really into what I heard of Year Zero. I wasn’t so keen on supporting his old label though, so I didn’t buy that one and one of my coworkers played it all the time anyway. Still, I was skeptical of a two-album set of just instrumental tracks, but this work is excellent. I play it while I’m gaming as it doesn’t distract from what I’m doing but it’s way better than what is usually in the game already.
My coworker gave me this pinewood derby car that her son made for a competition. It’s pretty awesome. I only wish I’d made one this cool when I was in Cub Scouts. I recall making a pretty sweet pirate-ship milk-carton boat for another competition though. It was like a raingutter-regatta but just used small milk-cartons instead of wood. Knowing my mom, she probably saved it and it’s sailing in a sea of dust within a dark closet somewhere…

I had a hard time convincing myself to go to bed last night, but I was messing with a tool (AutoHotKey) for capturing keystrokes on my Windows machine to forward to my Mac. It kept getting screwed up on the modifiers and would always send the last one I defined. I wound up getting it working by adding some logic to decide the modifier state after it had detected the base hotkey (is shift held down? how about control?) and then sending the appropriately modified sequence back again. Unfortunately, these sort of puzzles have a dangerously distracting affect on me.
I have this nasty series of reports I’m dealing with at work and a dentist appointment today to get a filling. Given my general loathing of all things about the dentist and the stress over the reports, I’m not surprised I didn’t want to sleep. I just hope to have some of this resolved before spring break, as I really want to just be able to rest a bit.
Here is Strider, crushing the top of a box because he can’t scrabble back off of it easily. I was taunting him with the cat-wand, just to make him fall further in.

I crashed out early last night, despite my desire to play more WoW and practice my two-boxing skills. For some reason, I woke up really tired and unwilling to move despite the extra hours of rest. I always wonder why that happens, as I thought I had myself on a pretty good schedule by now. At least I have coffee. They can’t take my coffee.
Scot tells me that oil is at $109 a barrel today. I try to stay willfully ignorant of day-to-day market conditions, but I understand this means gas prices might possibly be horrible over the summer. Didn’t GWB originally campaign about Clinton’s failure to keep costs under $35 a barrel or something? I guess I must be confused, it was surely unavoidable.

The freeways were slightly lighter this morning, resulting in my arrival at work about 7-8 minutes earlier than expected. I suspect it’s somehow because of the time-change, but it seems unlikely that so many people forgot to set their clocks ahead. I wonder how many people are late/early for work after these clock changes, and if it has a noticeable impact on nationwide productivity. It seems that it doesn’t save any power, anyway. It’s well known in our house that the cats always save their litterbox activity until minutes after it has been cleaned, but I’m starting to notice that they also both seem to store a little up for whenever I’m trying to cook, too. Because nothing goes better together than cooking and litterbox.
Ugh.

Last night I had a dream that I lived on a space station that was in a sun-synchronous orbit near the dusk terminator. It was kind of like a continuous sunset, which was pretty cool.
Then again, I also dreamed that I had huge wings and was gliding along dropping random items from my pockets on people below. Tee-hee!
When I woke up, I discovered someone had stolen the license plate off my car. Now I just want to go back to bed.
The weekend cannot come soon enough.
